Terrance Weems is new district commander at Lowell Post

Gary native has 30 years of service with Indiana State Police

Indpls. – Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter announced the promotion of First Sergeant Terrance F. Weems to the rank of Lieutenant.

Lieutenant Weems will assume the position of the Lowell Post District Commander.

Lt. Weems has served as the Lowell First Sergeant for the previous 16 years. Supt. Carter said Lt. Weems underwent a rigorous promotion process, including a comprehensive written test, oral interview, and thorough assessment of his overall work performance.

A native of Gary, Lt. Weems graduated from William A. Wirt High School in 1990 (Wirt High Troopers). He continued his education, receiving a B.A. in Sociology in 1999 from Indiana University Northwest. Lt. Weems was selected to attend and graduated from the 51st Indiana State Police Recruit Academy on December 9, 1994.

He was subsequently assigned to the Lowell post, where he patrolled Lake County.

Lieutenant Weems’ assignments to specialty units include the Motorcycle Patrol Unit, Gaming Division, Problem Oriented Police Unit, FBI/GRIT Task Force, Crash Reconstructionist, Field Training Officer, and MCSAP Level 3 Truck Inspector.

In 2022, Lieutenant Weems was selected to attend and graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

His other trainings include the Indiana State Police Supervisor School, Northwestern University Center for Public Safety - Police Staff and Command, Reid School of Interview and Interrogation, Institute of Police Technology and Management Crash Reconstruction School, and the Northwestern University/Harley-Davidson Motor School,

Lt. Weems is active in his community and his church, Logan Park Assembly of Christ Church in Gary, IN. He is the proud parent of 3 children and 5 grandchildren. He resides in Porter County with his wife, Crystal.
