Exchanges are expected to begin around July 2024 and extend through the end of 2026

Starting in July, NIPSCO will begin installation of updated meters for its gas customers.

NIPSCO, a subsidiary of NiSource Inc. (NYSE: NI), announced the deployment of upgraded gas communication modules through installation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technology.

Approximately 870,000 residential and commercial meters are eligible to be updated with the new gas communication modules. This technology will be installed in phases to gas residential and business customers over the next three years.

NIPSCO will exchange existing communications device with an AMI communications module for eligible homes and businesses throughout its gas service territory. If required meter maintenance is detected during the exchange, NIPSCO will take necessary steps to repair or replace the gas meter.

NIPSCO Communications’ Wendy Lussier said customers will receive a letter notification about the gas module exchange. A service technician will visit the home or business on installation day to change the equipment.

“The technician will knock on your door to check if you are home, but you do not need to be home for the exchange. A typical AMI module installation takes approximately 15 minutes. Upon completion, the technician will leave a door hanger with information about the exchange and your new module,” Lussier said.

“By having a Gas AMI communications module installed, NIPSCO can provide customers with more frequent and enhanced usage data, which will help us to better address your questions if you have any issues with your service,” Lussier said.

Exchanges are expected to begin around July 2024 and extend through the end of 2026.
