Famed storyline takes audiences on a journey to Neverland

Theatre Northwest, the performance company of the Indiana University Northwest Department of Performing Arts, presents its spring production of Peter Pan & Wendy by Doug Rand.

The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., April 5, 6, 7 and 12, 13, 14, with a matinee performance at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 8. All performances are in the Theater at the Arts & Sciences Building, located in the new $45 million building’s second floor. Boasting 500 seats and state-of-the-art technology, the theater is the region’s newest performance space.

Based on the beloved novel by J. M. Barrie, this comedic play tells the story of the boy who refused to grow up and the girl who loved him. Set in the early 1900s, Wendy and her brothers make the magical flight to Neverland where they play house and fight pirates, all without a thought for their worried parents. In the end, Peter must choose between his friends and his freedom.

Associate Professor of Acting and Directing Mark Baer, who is directing the production, says this is the most fun he’s had in rehearsal in a long time.

“Barrie’s story turns a satirical eye on the differences between boys and girls, children and adults,” Baer said. “We’ve been in stitches every night in rehearsal discovering and exploding these enduring stereotypes.”

The show features a large cast of IU Northwest students and community members.

General admission tickets are $10. Cash or check only will be accepted at the door.

The theatre expects performances will sell out and recommends reservations. Reserve seats online at iun.edu/theatre or by calling (219) 980-6808.
