Early voting closes June 1 at noon; big surge in mail-in votes

Early voting sites and in-person polling stations in Lake County are available to voters for the June 2 Primary Election.

Eleven Early Voting sites are open 8am to 7pm through Saturday, May 30. On Monday, June 1 Early Voting site hours are 8am until noon.

All 352 in-person voting sites will open Tuesday, June 2. Voting hours are 6am to 6pm.

The Secretary of State's Office says that as of Tuesday, almost 546,000 Hoosiers had requested to vote by mail. Compare that number to the last presidential year of 2016 when there was no pandemic, and that number is just under 54,000.

The NWI Times reported that includes 31,866 mail-in ballot requests in Lake County, 14,576 in Porter County, 5,960 in LaPorte County, 775 in Newton County and 1,866 in Jasper County.

In Lake County, voters will chose candidates to run in November's General Election. On the ballot are 8 positions: U.S. President, Indiana Governor, U.S. House of Representatives, Indiana State House of Representatives, Lake County Recorder, Lake County Coroner, Lake County Surveyor, and Lake County Commissioner.
