School's out and GHCS Summer Enrichment Program is in

Starts June 19 for youth, ages 6 to 14 and free for Gary youth

Children and youth, ages 6 to 14, may enroll in "Summer Enrichment for Learning," a program sponsored by the Gary Historical & Cultural Society.

The 5-week program will be held June 18 through July 19, 2018, Monday - Thursday, 9am-12:30pm with daily lunch provided by the Youth Services Bureau of the City of Gary at no cost.

Students can choose (4) “free” classes in arts and crafts, drawing, martial arts, oral speaking, creative writing, social living skills, beginning history, Girls’ Talk, Boys’ Talk, and Girl Scouts. Students can also select musical instruments instruction in violin, drums, trumpet, trombone, cello, guitar, and flute.

Students are required to take 1 hour of daily math and reading skills review.

Classes are free for Gary residents.

Summer visitors, children or youth not living in Gary may also enroll for a weekly fee of $5 per day. Day cares, camps, churches or other community programs may enroll their students for a small group weekly fee of $4 per day, per student. All participants pay a one-time $10 registration and supplies fee.

Donors and sponsors are invited to help with program support.

The program is located at Gary’s St. John Lutheran Church, 10th & Taft Street, Gary, which offers in-kind location and security support. Enter from the parking lot.
