Lives transformed by drops in blood sugar and blood pressure, weight loss

Recently, FAITH (Families Anchored in Total Harmony) CDC hosted its Appreciation Dinner at Sole Cafe in Gary, IN, honoring the staff, community partners, and program participants for their continued support of the Food is Medicine Program.

The evening served as a heartfelt thank-you and a celebration of the growing movement for food justice and health equity in the city of Gary and beyond.

“We are the only Food is Medicine program in the entire state,” said FAITH CDC founder and CEO Pastor Curtis Whittaker. “Therefore, our commitment to addressing food insecurity and chronic health conditions through access to nutritious foods is both critical and impactful.”

Rooted in principles of fairness and inclusivity, Faith Farms is committed to addressing systemic challenges surrounding food insecurity and chronic health conditions. Through strong partnerships and community-based efforts, the organization delivers healthy, nutrient-rich foods to families in need—affirming the belief that food truly is medicine.

Throughout the evening, guests heard powerful firsthand accounts from community members whose lives have been transformed by the program. From significant drops in blood sugar and blood pressure to unprecedented weight loss, these health improvements speak volumes about the life-changing impact of food as medicine

Partners whose collaboration has aided Faith Farms’ continued impact were also honored. These include Community HealthNet, Methodist Hospitals, Edgewater Health, Marram Health Care, Oak Street Health, Indiana University Northwest’s School of Urban Medicine, IUN C.U.R.E., the Lake County Health Department, the Legacy Foundation, NorthShore Health Centers, the local chapter of AARP, and a host of dedicated physicians and medical providers.

The evening ended on a high note as the Faith Farms team outlined their next steps and how the community can continue to support the mission. With plans to expand their reach, the team shared a vision of serving more families, increasing their health impact, and forming stronger partnerships with local healthcare providers and other community organizations.
