Gary Police investigating shootings and deaths

Commander Samuel Roberts of the Gary Police Department released this report of recent criminal investigations.
Gary Police are investigating the shooting of a 24 year-old Gary man and a 26 year-old North Chicago woman. The November 12 incident occurred at approximately 2:20pm. in the 400 block of South Grand Blvd., Gary’s Miller area. Upon officers’ arrival they were given conflicting information about the shooting. The weapon used is alleged to belong to the 24 year-old and the victims know one another.

On November 11, at approximately 7:06pm., the Gary Police were dispatched to the area of 17th and Maryland for a death investigation after drivers in the area reported that an unknown man was lying unresponsive on the sidewalk in the middle of the block. The victim appeared to have suffered from a gunshot wound.
This incident is being investigated by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force. Call (219) 755-3855.
On November 11, at approximately 11:06pm, the Gary Police responded to a call of a 13 year-old- female gunshot victim in the 2700 block of Monroe Street. Witnesses state that an unknown subject or subjects began shooting at the house and the victim was struck. The victim was sitting in a chair in a bedroom in the residence. Witnesses also state they heard subjects running through the yard after the shooting.
This incident is being investigated by Sgt. Mark Salazar. Call (219) 881-1209.
On November 10, at approximately 11:35am, Gary Police were dispatched to the 400 block of W. 41st Avenue for a female down and unresponsive. Officers arrived at the scene and spoke with a witness who said they were passing by and noticed an object balled up in the grass right off the sidewalk.
The witness – a nurse – realized that the object was a female person and attempted to render aide while another passerby notified police, requesting medical services. Unfortunately, the female was unresponsive and declared deceased.
The Lake County Prosecutors Homicide Task Force is investigating this incident. Call (219) 755-3855.
Update: The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified Otha Williams, age 48, from fingerprints as the deceased found in the 1700 block of Maryland Street.
