Conbi Oven replaces stove that had been in use for more than 30 years
Claudia Jones, Director of Food and Beverage for Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana, visited the Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana in Merrillville to participate in the unveiling ceremony for the brand-new professional grade Conbi Oven, which supports several methods of cooking including convection and steam.
Meals on Wheels of NWI CEO Sandra Noe and Chef Keith Peffers, Director of Food Services for Meals on Wheels of NWI were there to showcase the exciting features of the new piece of equipment. Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana donated $10,000 towards the purchase of the new oven. The new Conbi Oven replaced an oven that had been in use for more than 30 years. Claudia Jones is on the Meals on Wheels Board of Directors.
According to Jones, “It was exciting to see Chef Peffers demonstrate the new technology that is included in the new convection oven. These latest features will be a great help in processing thousands of meals to residents of Northwest Indiana and surrounding counties every day.”
For many Americans, Meals on Wheels is the difference between remaining in their own homes and needing to relocate to a nursing facility. The nutritious meal, friendly visit and wellness check help them cope with three of the biggest threats of aging: nutrition needs, isolation and loss of independence. Research proves that when older adults have the right support, they gain greater quality of life, need fewer hospital stays and live longer.
Meals on Wheels delivers to senior and neighborhood centers for those who can still venture out and who want to enjoy their meals with friends and community members.
Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana delivers nutritious meals to people in need in Lake, Porter, Newton, and Jasper counties, serving over 2,000 meals each day. Meals are prepared in the regional commercial kitchen and headquarters in Merrillville and delivered with the support of community volunteers.
