St. Mary Medical Center, Purdue Extension host free nutrition classes

Portage Township YMCA is site for 5 sessions beginning Thursday, Nov. 16

St. Mary Medical Center and the Purdue Extension’s Lake County office are partnering with the Portage Township YMCA to offer free nutrition classes at the Portage Y beginning Thursday, Nov. 16, at 10:30 a.m. This five-week program will teach participants about healthy food options, food safety, how to read labels, and how to eat nutritiously on any budget.

Program dates are Nov. 16 and 30, and Dec. 7, 14 and 21. Each class begins at 10:30 a.m. and lasts approximately one hour. Class facilitators will prepare a sample dish during each class, and participants will receive a gift for attending.

These classes are offered as part of Purdue Extension’s Nutrition Education Program and hosted by St. Mary Medical Center in partnership with the Portage YMCA. To register, call 219-836-3477 or 866-836-3477.
