Check This Out: Porkchop in Glenwood

Jovanis Bouargoub, a native of Paris and the proprietor of six restaurants in some of Chicago’s trendiest and most-trafficked neighborhoods, has encountered his latest venture – Porkchop, at the corner of Nugent and Main Streets in Glenwood, Ill. He also owns a steakhouse and holds a degree in hospitality from LeCordon Bleu.

I thought the place would never open. As I traveled back and forth to work in Glenwood I often wondered, “When are they going to be done?” The whole process just seemed to take a tad too long.

Glenwood shares a menu with Porkchop’s five other spots, three in the Loop, one in Hyde Park, another at Navy Pier. Live music is a steady feature at the location in Hyde Park. Porkchop is the hottest thing smoking in Glenwood. It is a restaurant and bar that dishes out an urban interpretation of a Southern backwoods experience and is an unapologetically, unpretentious neighborhood party spot serving gourmet Southern comfort food and BBQ. It serves brunch, lunch, dinner and late night at the location on Randolph Street. It also offers daily drink and food specials and features a sidewalk patio in the summer.

Some of the menu goodies are BBQ Salmon, Chicken and Waffles, Shrimp and Grits, Beef Ribs, slow cooked Beef Short Ribs, Seafood Etoufee. For appetizers, there’s a choice of Fried Pickles, Fried Okra and Bacon Wrapped Shrimp.

How about Rum Raisin Bread Pudding or Bacon Maple Glazed Donuts for dessert? How about the Fat Elvis? It’s a bacon waffle with bananas, peanut butter, maple syrup and butter. There’s also Beignets with fresh fruit and syrup and Cinnamon Roll French Toast.
