Register by December 4 for a pick-up-and-go meal

The Take-Out Hunger team is back. Led by Tasha Coaxum, chef and owner of Innovative Catering and Sweets, families in need will be served a free holiday meal on Saturday, December 5.

Saturday’s Take-Out Holiday Hunger follows the first “take a bite out of hunger” held in September when 400 meals were served.

This time, the team of the Gary Food Council, Culinary Dreamers Inc., Indiana American Water, Decay Devils, Lake County Eats Local, NWI Food Council, and ArtHouse: A Social Kitchen will serve 300 meals.

The meals are free and registration is required by December 4 at Eventbrite.com to get a ticket and pick up the meals at the ArtHouse.

Hunger Day organizers are out to prove that hunger and food deserts can be eradicated by connecting local food growers with people who don’t have daily access to healthy foods and fresh produce.

Chef Tasha said, “The vision for this event came about because I remember growing up and having access to fresh produce because my family had a garden, and the food was so delicious and healthy. I want people in need to have the same experience, especially during these difficult times.”
