For the seafood lover in you, I introduce Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. Pappdeaux is located in Westmont, Illinois and well worth the drive, toll and gas. Also, you get to spend some quality time. There’s not too much of that anymore. Everyone is always so busy, including me.

Pappadeaux has a fun and festive atmosphere. I took Mac Daddy there for his birthday and he was pleasantly surprised and gracious. I wanted to do something special for him as well as myself. I got to eat there for the first time as well as write my column. By the way, birthday people get a complimentary dessert and the desserts are no joke.

Pappadeaux is beautiful, classy and spacious. It is one of the largest family-owned and operated restaurant companies in the United States. The Pappas family makes, owns and operates everything they need to ensure they continue to serve only the highest quality products in a comfortable environment that keeps guests satisfied and keep coming back again and again. I know I’m going back real soon.

Pappadeaux owns and operates their fleet of delivery trucks. This allows them to deliver fresh seafood directly from the docks to the restaurant daily. They’ve been on a mission to shorten the time between when a product is caught and when it arrives in their kitchens.

Here are some of the “Fun Facts” – 2.27 million baguettes are baked in their bakery per year; 144,000 gallons of made from scratch salad dressing are made every month; 132 pecan halves are used in every whole pecan pie; and 48,000 gallons of olive oil are used per year.

Do you like tuna? Check out the Tuna & Hamachi Crudo, which is sliced tuna hamachi, (the Japanese name for Pacific yellowtail, especially when used in sushi), with pineapple, cucumber, avocado and Chile/lime vinaigrette.

Do you like fried alligator? I don’t know either? Anyway, Crispy Fried Alligator, Cape Cod Bay Mussels and Fried Frog Legs are amongst the offerings of hot appetizers.

Pappadeaux also has Prime steaks, Filet Mignon and Prime Beef Ribeye. On the menu also are Chilean Sea Bass, Crispy Atlantic Salmon, Shrimp & Octopus. Sides include sautéed spinach, butternut squash, red beans & rice, cheese grits and creamed spinach.

I selected the Seafood Platter: Two fried tilapia, two fried catfish fillets, blue crab cake, stuffed shrimp and stuffed crab along with a giant baked potato. My guest chose the fried shrimp and catfish fillets.

The grand finale was the dessert. They bought us this huge dessert tray. Each dessert can feed at least three people. I stopped counting calories before I got there and you should too. My towering praline cheesecake was absolutely gorgeous. It had candied praline pecans with a praline crust, garnished with raspberries and powdered sugar.

My guest indulged in the turtle fudge brownie, served warm with caramel, hot fudge, raspberries, powdered sugar and a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream. Make sure you mention it’s your birthday when you go so that you may get a complimentary dessert.
