"Love Isn't Enough" opens William Johnson Film Festival at The Glen Theatre

The William Johnson Film Festival returns for the celebration of Black History Month in Gary with stops at Wirt-Emerson and Thea Bowman.

In its sixth year, The Glen Theatre will continue to be the main showcase of the two-day festival, with the two schools hosting short films produced by high school and college students.

Opening night at The Glen is Friday, February 17 with a 6:30 p.m. reception hosted by the Gary Branch of the NAACP, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity - AKK Chapter, AKA Sorority - Gamma Psi Omega Chapter, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, New Hope M.B. Church, Froebel Alumni Park Committee, and the African American Achievers.

Bill Johnson, the festival host and a graduate of Wirt Emerson will bring other film directors, producers and actors to the event. Featured among them will be Charles Greer IV, a Hollywood child actor originally from Gary, and Ganeesh Genus, a student film producer.

The feature movie Friday night is Love Isn’t Enough. Following are movie shorts Make American Great?, Rise Up, Same Fruit - Different Tree, The Conscience, Split Decision, Showtime, Gila Monster, and Some Torches Don’t Burn.

Advance tickets for Friday are $20 and can be secured from members of the NAACP or by calling 949-5565, and at Beautiful Things in the Village Shopping Mall in Gary. The cost at the door is $25.

Brothers’ Keeper, New Hope M.B. Church, Triumph the Church and the Kingdom of God in Christ, Feed My Sheep Resource Center, Inc., First AME Missionary Society, and the Clark Road Foundation will join the African American Achievers Youth Corp in hosting Saturday night.

Saturday’s feature movie is Stripes, followed by movie shorts The Letter Carrier, Behind Closed Doors, Love, Dreams My Master, The Storyteller, and Woman Scorned.

Advance tickets for Saturday are $15; the admission at the door is $20.

Tickets may be secured from any of the sponsors. Tickets for both nights may be purchased at Beautiful Things in the Village Shopping Mall in Gary. Combo tickets for both nights are $30.

The youth film shorts scheduled for the schools are From Noya, Spin Cycle, The Golden Rule, Engage, Introvert, Good Morning, Ball is Life, On Time, Father Reel Inspiration, and Ludo Mentis.
