Summer Doc Festival

The Glen Theatre, located at 20 West Ridge Road, owned and operated by the African American Achievers Youth Corps, Inc. will host its Summer Doc Festival on Saturday, June 4 at 7 p.m.

Summer Doc Festival is the 11th Bill Johnson Black Film Festival showing at The Glen; this year featuring documentaries produced by Black film producers.

Indiana State Rep. Vernon G. Smith, The Glen Theatre Board Chairman said the documentaries to be shown are some of the best he has seen. “They are of such a high quality. The documentaries address topics that are pertinent to minorities and humanitarians, and are produced to capture one’s interest. They are very well done.”

The film festival will be hosted by Gary native and Hollywood actor William L. Johnson. Johnson is a graduate of Emerson School of Visual and Performing Arts. He has played major roles in numerous featured films and movie shorts. Film producers and actors will answer questions following the movies.

Documentaries scheduled to be shown are Not Just a Name, A Loc & Twist, Roots of the Race Amity Movement, DiaTribe: From the Village to the Streets, and SHEROD.

Smith said those who attended the festival screening in February were given complimentary tickets for admission. He said a limited amount of additional complimentary tickets are available for pick up at Beautiful Things, 4335 Broadway. The cost of admission at the door is $10.

For additional information or to secure complimentary tickets for groups, contact Smith at (219) 887-2046.
