12-year-old boy drowns at Marquette Beach

Child was a resident of Chicago Heights, IL
The Office of the Lake County Coroner identified Jerail C. Lee, age 12 and a resident of Chicago Heights, IL as the drowning victim at Marquette Park in Gary, Thursday.
Lt. Dawn Westerfield reported that at approximately 5:09pm, Thursday, July 9, the Gary Police Department responded to Marquette Beach for a call of a child in the water. Westerfield said a multi-agency search for the boy was underway at that time.
The search ended with the recovery of Lee’s body by marine units and divers at 6:24pm.
