Police respond to call for service for gunshot wound victim
The Lake County Coroner’s Office has certified the identity of a gunshot wound victim reported to the Gary Police Dept. on July 11.
At approximately 5:27p.m., Thursday, July 11 the Gary Police Department responded to a call for service in reference to a gunshot wound victim. The caller advised the gunshot victim was inside a residence in the 4000 block of West 10th Ave, Gary, Indiana.
Officers arrived at the location and came into contact with a female caller who said her ex-boyfriend had been shot. Officers secured the scene and Gary Fire Department arrived on scene and transported the male gunshot wound victim to Methodist Northlake for treatment.
The male victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced deceased by the Lake County Coroner’s Office. The coroner’s office later identified him as Kevin Hayden, 54, of Gary.
The female, age 40, from Gary, Indiana was taken into custody by officers on scene.
