Gary school bus involved in two-vehicle collision

A Gary school district bus, transporting 7 students to classes Monday morning, was involved in a collision with a passenger vehicle.

According to the district’s Student Transportation Office, all students along with a bus attendant and driver were taken to Methodist Hospitals’ Southlake Campus for evaluation. None sustained life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened at 7:55 a.m. near 20th and Hendricks, in Gary. The school bus was transporting Gary students to Williams Annex, on Gary’s east side.

First responders to the scene included the Gary Fire Department, Gary Police Department and EMTs with ambulances.

“We are just glad that all of the kids and everybody will be okay,” said GCSC Bus Transportation Coordinator April Smith.
