After body of Murphy's daughter found in Indiana retention pond

A suburban Illinois man, Ahmeel Fowler, 26, of Pinegree Grove, was identified Friday as the person of interest sought by Wheeling, IL police in the death of 21-year-old Ja'nya Murphy.

Murphy’s body was discovered by police on a wellness check early Wednesday, November 10 at her home in Deerfield, IL. Her 1-year-old child was reported missing.

Fowler has been charged with first-degree murder for the homicide of Murphy and is being extradited back to Illinois. Police expect additional charges for the death of her daughter, Jaclyn Dobbs.

Construction workers discovered Dobb’s body Thursday in a retention pond near the I-80/94 and Kennedy Avenue exit ramp in Hammond, IN.

Wheeling police investigators had tracked down video that helped them to identify Fowler, later determined to be seen with Murphy on Monday.

On Tuesday evening, he was taken into custody in Springfield, Missouri as a person of interest. Police said he had a previous relationship with Murphy, but was not the father of Dobbs.
