Charges in Calumet Township double homicide

Arrest of third suspect brings charges in deaths of 2 teens

A female and two males from Gary have been arrested and are facing multiple charges in connection with a double homicide which occurred in Calumet Township last fall.

These charges include a name shared by one of the victims and one of the defendants.

On October 16, 2020, 17-year-old Maxwell Kroll and 18-year-old Elijah Robinson were found inside a home in the 3900 block of W. 51st Avenue. Both had sustained gunshot wounds. It is believed the teens were killed in retaliation for a stolen handgun.

Dawn Carden, 42, faces two counts of murder, two counts of dealing in a narcotic drug and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Alvino Amaya, 36, also faces two counts of murder. Officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and agents with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms arrested Carden and Amaya December 18th, 2020. Carden and Amaya are being held in the Porter County Jail on federal charges.

Lake County Sheriff’s Department officers arrested 19-year-old Elijah D. Robinson yesterday, on February 11. He is charged with two counts of murder and is being held in the Lake County Jail.

Sheriff Oscar Martinez said, “I am proud of the hard work and professionalism shown by Lake County Sheriff’s Department investigators in bringing these suspects to justice.”
