Gary Police investigating murder and suicide in Aetna

Domestic dispute leaves 2 dead

Gary Police officers response to a 12:14pm Friday, February 5th call for assistance for a domestic dispute is now an investigation classified as a murder and suicide.

GPD Public Information Officer Dawn Westerfield said the call came from a third party, who had difficulty giving officers an exact address of the incident. After gaining additional details, officers were able to locate the residence.

When officers arrived at the residence in the 800 block of Fayette, in Gary's Aetna neighborhood, they found 3 juveniles and 2 adults, a male and female with gunshot wounds. The adults were unresponsive.

The 3 juveniles, who were home during the incident, were removed from the residence by officers and showed no sign of injuries.

The male and female gunshot victims were declared deceased on scene by the Lake County Coroner's Office. The Lake County Coroner identified the female as Kerry Tucker, age 34. The coroner has not yet released the identity of the male.

Officer Westerfield said the Metro Homicide Unit will be leading the investigation. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact (219) 755-3855 or the Crime Tip Line at (866) CRIME-GP.

Upon learning of the incident, Gary's Deputy Mayor Trent McCain said, "On behalf of the people of the City of Gary, we are devastated by the tragic loss of lives that occurred Friday around Fayette Street and Route 20. Our hearts and prayers go out to the children who witnessed such a senseless act of violence, and we grieve with them. This is another stark reminder of the pervasiveness of domestic violence in our society. We will do all we can to support these children and their families during this difficult time."
