Will remain in Stage 4 and not advance to Stage 5 of Indiana's Back-On-Track plan

In light of Governor Holcomb’s announcement to move the state forward into Back-On-Track Stage Five; and in the interest of keeping the community of East Chicago healthy and safe, based on present evidence, it is the decision of Mayor Anthony Copeland and East Chicago Health Department to remain at Stage Four.

The statement from the Mayor's Office said, "As health department staff tracks the positivity rate of cases, data reflects an upward trend in the numbers. Currently, 3.7% of East Chicago residents that have been tested are COVID-19 positive. This movement will continue to rise should mitigation efforts end."

With winter approaching and flu season beginning, the Health Department advises in favor of keeping the City at Stage Four.

Between Saturday, September 26 and Tuesday, September 29 the city reported 28 new cases.
