Gary Police report early morning homcide near eastside bar

4th gunshot victim since July 1
Gary Police Department reports its 4th homicide since July 1.
Lt. Dawn Westerfield, Public Information Officer, reported officers reponded to a call of shots fired on July 13, 2020 at approximately 1:48am.
When officers arrived to the address in the 200 block of East 16th Avenue, they observed a crowd standing around a black male who was lying on the sidewalk. The man, from Gary, was unresponsive at the time and appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
He was later declared deceased on the scene by the Lake County Coroner. The coroner listed the location as the sidewalk behind 224 East 16th Avenue. That is the address for the Blue Room Lounge.
The Coroner's Office identified the deceased as Robert Crawford, age 33. That office gave an Indianapolis address, in the 1800 Block of Ludlow Ave., for Crawford.
