Governor Holcomb mandates shutdown of all Indiana schools until May

Just one week into the order that closed Indiana’s public and private schools until April 6, Gov. Eric Holcomb has extended school closures until May 1.

Because of the coronavirus public health emergency, the governor ordered all K-12 public schools to remain closed until May 1. Non-public schools are also ordered closed. This date may be revised to extend through the end of the 2019-2020 school year if circumstances warrant.

Gary schools announced new food distribution procedures to meet the state’s guideline to limit gathering in groups to 10 and less.

Instead of families and students travelling to food distribution centers, a fleet of buses will be dispatched to locations across the city and will stay in these locations for 30-minutes before moving on the next location.

GCSC will distribute food items to youth ages 18 and younger on Monday, March 23rd from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Food items will be handed out by district employees and representatives from food vendor Sodexo Magic.

The list of bus distribution stops can be found here.
