State police arrest Gary man after road rage shooting

Mom and two-year-old child were inside vehicle, not hurt
A Gary man was arrested Thursday evening after he was involved in a road rage incident that started in Lake Station and ended with him shooting at a car that had a two-year-old child inside.
Preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police Detectives Chris Campione and Gary Runde revealed at approximately 3:23 P.M. March 7, ISP regional dispatch center received a 911 call about a possible road rage with shots possibly fired. The victim, a 24-year-old woman from Lake Station, driving a 2012 Toyota Yaris was following the suspect, who was driving a Dodge Charger, on I-80/94 west bound from Ripley Street.
As it approached I-65, the Toyota’s driver realized her tire was going flat and had to pull over at the 8-mile marker (one mile west of Grant Street). The Dodge Charger continued west bound at a high rate of speed. The victim was able to give a license plate number and a description of the driver, a male black with a silver grill teeth.
A trooper made contact with the victim and verified that her car had been hit at least twice by bullets (rear tire and rear quarter panel). The victim, another male adult, and the victim’s two-year-old child who was sitting in the back seat were not injured.
Trooper Nathan Wolfe located the suspect’s vehicle at 25th and Grant Street in Gary and made a felony stop on the suspect. The suspect, later identified as Davonte Biddings, 25 of Gary, was detained and taken to the Lowell state police post. Troopers located two guns in the Charger.
Further investigation revealed the road rage started in a trailer park in Lake Station and resulted in both parties continuing the road rage in Lake Station when the Charger pulled alongside the Toyota on Ripley Street, smiled at the victim, and then shot at the Toyota several times. They continued their rage when they entered west bound I-80/94.
While Biddings was at the Lowell state police post, video cameras caught Biddings trying to hide something in his underwear. Police found it was marijuana.
Biddings was taken to Lake County jail in Crown Point and is being held on preliminary charges of Criminal Recklessness and Possession of Marijuana. Further charges may be pending.
