NiSource responded: We serve our customers in the way they want to be served

The only walk-in business office in NIPSCO's service territory reopened with a flourish this week in Gary. No one thought it would be 2 years before customers would return, said Business Office Manager Jessica Kartz, when COVID-19 restrictions closed the office in March 2020.

Customers called daily asking when we'd reopen, Kartz said.

NIPSCO responded to those customers, NiSource Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Jennifer Montague said at the ribbon cutting held to celebrate the office's re-opening in the University Park Medical Center, 3229 Broadway.

"Fundamental to NIPSCO is serving the customer in the way they want to be served. Even though we've launched many self-service channels and improved the website, a lot of people still want to come to a person to get help and ask questions," Montague said.

In the interim, many business office customers did use the Customer Care Center, the utility's call center in Merrillville. Customers who had used the office to pay bills in person could find authorized retail locations that processed NIPSCO payments.

Now, customers who prefer to do business in person can visit the walk-in facility and take advantage of the same services offered before the closing:
• Obtaining balance and billing information
• Starting, stopping, and moving service
• Setting up payment arrangements
• Enrolling in the budget plan
• Acquiring information on energy assistance, and
• Making payments using cash, check or money orders.
