Body found by utility crews while working in Gary
Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey released an artist’s facial sketch of the teenage girl whose body was found Monday by utility workers in Gary. Coroner Frey hopes the photo release to the public will help locate the family of the young girl.
On September 16, NIPSCO crewmen working at 20th and Pennsylvania discovered the body.
The coroner’s office reported the body is a black female, between 14 and 18 years old. The coroner estimates she had died 2 days before.
“I have been working closely with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children with hopes to locate the family of a young Jane Doe found in Gary. I am providing the following facial sketches in hopes to locate her loved ones. This is another heart wrenching case that I would like to bring closure to, for her family,” Coroner Frey said.
The coroner described her as approximately 5’2” tall and weighing 117 pounds. She had short black hair. Both earlobes were pierced, but no earrings were in place. No unique scars or tattoos were observed.
She was found wearing a white, light and dark blue Nike windbreaker, an orange/red t-shirt with the words “SUPERGIRL POWER” and the Superman logo on the front (size large), blue Champion brand pants with gray stripes, blue & black Nike Air Max Plus sneakers (size 7), and a red bra (size 32B).
“I request the public’s help in locating this young female’s family,” Coroner Frey said.
The images featured are facial reconstructions created by a NCMEC Forensic Artist and depicts what the female may have looked like in life.
