LAUW donates to Methodist Hospitals, Kappas' give to Catholic Charities

The Sharing Season: Activity kits for children, Thanksgiving Baskets for needy families
Lake Area United Way (LAUW) participated in a volunteer project with BP Asian Network Whiting, Indiana. BP employees created 150 activity kits for kids to be donated to a local hospital. These kits were donated to Methodist Hospital’s Pediatric Unit at the Gary Campus and the emergency room departments at both the Gary and Merrillville Campuses. Six-year-old Christian Williams was being discharged on the day the activity kits were being delivered by Megan Sikes, Community Engagement Manager at the LAUW. Christian proudly accepted his activity kit and asked if he could have one for his sister. The big smile on his face said it all. Thanks to the generous gift from BP and the LAUW, kids treated at Methodist Hospitals will be able to smile during a time when they need it most.
During their annual Thanksgiving Basket Distribution at Catholic Charities in Gary this past Thanksgiving holiday, The Gary Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., helped provide food baskets for needy families across Gary and Northwest Indiana.
Collaborating with area volunteers like Gary Kappa League, Carter Memorial, St. Timothy Baptist Church’s Christian Teen Ministry, Theodore Roosevelt CCA Boys Basketball and Aspire Academy, the fraternity assembled and distributed 100 food baskets to area families. Foods for baskets were provided by Fresh County Market in Gary.
