PRX Picks Up A Quarter Of The Wins At 2024 Black Podcasting Awards
Public Radio Exchange was the biggest winner at this week’s Black Podcasting Awards as PRX picked up a quarter of the prizes, with shows under its umbrella winning eight of the 32 awards handed out. That included two for Moral Repair: A Black Exploration of Tech, three for its poignant Second Sunday, and three for the engaging What’s Ray Saying?
Anna DeShawn’s Queer News continued its winning streak, claiming Best LGBTQ podcast for a third consecutive year. And Lisa Woolfork and her show Stitch Please took home three new trophies, bringing her right behind DeShawn’s record for podcasts with the most BPAwards wins.
In a surprising turn, Oprah Winfrey was notably absent from the winners’ list, coming up short in three categories, including Best Culture Podcast, Best Limited Series Podcast, and Best Solo Host. While Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay also came up short, Sharpe and co-host Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson won the Best Sports Podcast award for their show Nightcap.
Keisha “TK” Dutes, Krystal Hill, and Twila Dang, the three Legend Award recipients, will be honored in person at the upcoming Afros & Audio Podcast Festival in Baltimore, scheduled for Oct. 18-20, 2024.
On International Podcast Day, September 30, the top podcasts and listening habits in each state will be unveiled.
