21st Century Charter School treated to private car show and a cookout

Coming out of pandemic lockdowns and strict rules for social distancing of 2020, what better way to help your community members ease back into some sense of normalcy than to give them a private car show and a cookout.

That's what the NWI Corvette Club did for teachers at 21st Century Charter School in Gary, Wednesday.

Corvette Club members brought their cars, the grills and the food to the school parking lot. "We're doing this to show our appreciation to our teachers for the great work they do," said club member Ed McHaskell, who heads the club's scholarship committee.

"We are so pleased for them to feed us and honor us with their display of cars for teachers and students. What a way to honor the teachers in this community," said 6th grade teacher Gloria Arthur. The club served burgers, polish sausage, potato salad, and baked beans.

On May 2, the club treated the congregation of New Friendship Baptist Church to a car show and cookout.

Formed in 1991, NWI Corvette Club is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
