Mayor Freeman-Wilson, Commissioner Allen, and Assessor Collins declare support

With May primary elections in 3 weeks, Mike Brown’s campaign headquarters was in a festive mood Saturday as more endorsements were announced for the candidate seeking the Democratic nomination for Lake County Sheriff.

Joining Brown Saturday to declare their support were Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson, Lake County Commissioner Kyle Allen, and Calumet Township Assessor Jackie Collins.

“As a county-wide office holder, Mike understands the importance of representing and serving the people throughout the county, from Leroy to Gary, from Hammond to Lake Station,” said Mayor Freeman-Wilson. “He has worked hard to ensure that the county governments that he has led have been responsive to us. I believe he will do the same as Lake County Sheriff. Mike understands that what the sheriff’s office needs is an administrator.”

Brown currently serves as the Clerk for the Lake County Circuit and Superior Courts. He has been in county government for more than 14 years, first serving as Lake County Recorder for two terms and again serving two terms as Lake County Clerk. Mike has more than 24 years as a Lake County employee.

"I am honored to receive this important endorsement from Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson; I want her to know that I support her as mayor now and in the future,” said Brown. “The mayor’s endorsement is extremely valuable to me.”

He added, “The fact that the mayor of my own city would endorse me as the most qualified candidate should speak volumes to the people of Lake County. I am much appreciative to the mayor for her observation of my service and her validation that I can lead the people as sheriff with integrity and commitment, and for recognizing my proven track record of accomplishment. I am looking forward to serving all the people, and working with county leadership and departments. Serving the people is my number one priority and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, May 8. Early voting continues across Lake County until noon Monday, May 7.
