It's about a bit of swag and entertainment
Appropriate for the opening song at Valentine’s Day “Love is in the Hair” at the Radisson, the artist crooned “I got my hair done today” similar to the melody Jill Scott used in her 2000 hit “The Way.” A visit to the barber or beauty shop brings out that warmth of feeling good and looking good.
“This is the opportunity for us, hair stylists and barbers, to display what we do. We come from behind the chair and bring it to the stage,” said William Coker, “Love’s” producer and owner of Billcos Barber Shop on 24th and Broadway, Gary. “We put a little swag to it and we entertain.”
The standing room only audience was entertained by stylists and barbers who “glammed up,” looking and acting as if they came out of a music video. Kamisha Jackson, the show’s production manager said they hit their attendance mark of 500.
“Love” was about more than hair. It included makeup artists, clothing, and body care products.
Like LaTish Parker, owner of Luxury Waist Trainers. Parker reaches most of her customers by hosting shows at hair salons. She also hits the pavement passing out cards.
Parker said her clinchers train the waist without working out. “Wear it all day while you go about your daily activity … going to the grocery store, while you’re with your kids, or housekeeping.” The ‘Butt Lift’ is her most popular product. “It trains your butt to sit up,” she said.
Coker said “Love” was his 12th hair show. The hair business has rewarded this determined entrepreneur. He’s added videography to his resume. From his barber shop a few days after the hair show, he said, “You can go to my website right now and purchase a video of the show.”
